4 Frugal Roadtrip Tips

Are you prepared for your summer vacations? Even though it has been pretty hot in the south for a while now, summer officially begins this week! I always suggest planning your trips ahead of time in order to save the most money. Last year, my husband and I took two roadtrips to attend family weddings and it was a blast! One trip was to Chicago and the other was to Tallahassee. Flights were expensive so we decided to make the travel fun + frugal by roadtripping! Thanks to these adventures, I now have a four important frugal road-trip tips to share with you!

1) Plan Ahead - It is always easier (and cheaper) when you have a plan! Ever noticed that hotel and flight prices usually increase the longer you wait to book? Go ahead and book now to avoid the last minute surge pricing. If you are a procrastinator, check out hoteltonight.com for last-minute deals on hotel rooms!

2) BYOB - Bring your own beverages and food on your trip. Packing your snacks ahead of time is more budget-friendly than picking some up at a convenience store along the way. We always pack a cooler with water bottles when we travel. For long distance trips we have nuts, crackers, and chips on hand!

3) Save Money on Gas - Download the Upside app! I am constantly raving about this app and if you don't have it yet, you are missing out! You can earn cash back every time you pay for gas. All you have to do is open the app, look for gas stations in the area that are offering cash back, claim the offer, and then print and upload a picture of your receipt. It's that easy. When you use my code "JESSICA46329," you will receive an extra 15 cents back on your first fill up! I have made over $50 using this app for a few months - go ahead and download and tell all your friends!

4) Free Entertainment - Another app you should use on your adventure is Roadtrippers. Travis has long legs and needs to take breaks along the way to stay sane. With the Roadtrippers app, we found some interesting places to stop along on our way to Chicago. We ended up at a nudist resort with a giant sundial leg. We kept our clothes on and I can't say we would stop there again but we do have a fun story to share now.

Also, it is not necessarily free but if you are already paying for Spotify or Netflix, you should download movies and songs to enjoy along the way!

What tips do you have to share when it comes to saving money while traveling? I would love for you to share them with me in the comments below. Happy roadtripping!
